Reward for trespassing

Pulled this one out of the archives as I haven't had the motivation to go shoot in the snow and cold.  But I'm hoping later this week to throw on my boots, gloves, hat, scarf, etc, etc and go try out my new 70-300mm lens!  So you should see some new material soon!

Angels

vegas isn't exactly the christmas capital of the world, but at least these angels (they are angels, aren't they?) make it somewhat seasonally appropriate.

Vegas Glow

i didn't have my tripod for this one so it's not the crispiest image - but still love the colors, lights, and the guy stooping down to take a picture of his gal.

The Strip

i love this shot.  there's nothing like the colors & lights of vegas at night.

i'm going to ride these vegas pictures for a bit longer.  this awful weather (single digits nearly every day for what seems like weeks) has really prevented me from getting anything new to post.  i may be digging into my travel archives sooner than i anticipated.  i was hoping to hold those until the dog days of winter.

Lady Liberty

wish my shots of the real deal had come out this good - my day at the statue of liberty in nyc was cloudy & rainy.  there's something about capturing her with a bright blue sky that's so much more appealing.

Hazy Vegas

this one really makes the Trump Hotel look like it's way out in the middle of nowhere - and it kind of is i guess.  love the hazy, yellow sky.

Birds-Eye View

looking down on a vegas neighborhood from the stratosphere.  the limited grass always amazes me in vegas - i know it's the dessert and all but still is so strange to imagine living without something we're continuously surrounded by in mn (except winter of course, but who's outside then anyways?).  just something i oftentimes take for granted i guess.

Long Shadow

Stratosphere casts a long shadow on the neighborhoods of Vegas in the afternoon light.

All sorts

more from the Rock n Roll Half Marathon, which brought out all sorts in Vegas last weekend.

Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon

Last weekend my husband ran in the Rock n Roll Half Marathon in Las Vegas, NV.  What an amazing event.  13 miles up and down the strip.  Rock n Roll has a series of runs throughout the year at various locations across the country and it sounds like we'll be doing this again at another location (Virginia Beach or New Orleans possibly).

Notice the 2 cowboys in the lower left.  It was as though the cowboys overtook Las Vegas last weekend - cowboy hats & belt buckles galore!  We later learned they were in town for the 2009 National Rodeo Finals.  And boy did Vegas cater to their desires -- rodeo on every bar TV, country music in every casino, and rodeo expo after rodeo expo!  A different spin on Vegas.

Adventures in Pope County

continued my adventures in pope county by shooting this beautiful, old barn.  was nervous about this one too (i know i'm too paranoid) but managed to get this shot from the road.  gorgeous red with the bright blue sky.  more to come!

Grove Lake Church

there are a lot of interesting little places out near my in-laws.  this one is a memorial for the grove lake church.  it sits on the site where the original church burnt down (wish i could remember the year).  couldn't decide on the color or black & white so i decided to post both!

Trespassing II

Another shot from my trespassing adventure.

Trespassing

I've been dying to photograph this abandoned farmstead for almost a year!  I drive by it every single time I go out to my in-laws and wish I could sneak on and get a few shots.  Well, over Thanksgiving I couldn't resist any longer.  So I just did it - even though I totally knew I was trespassing.  There are a few other buildings I wish I was brave enough to capture but this one is near the edge of the highway.  So I ran up to it, took some shots and then ran back to my truck.  Why am I so chicken?

Fascinated by Cementeries

something about old headstones fascinate me - to think of what their life was like 100+ years ago, what brought them to glenwood, and how they died.
